"Silk does for the body what diamonds do for the hand"
Last Friday I snuck out of work a little early and on my way home decided to stop by a department store that was having their big semi-annual sale. I wasn’t really looking for anything in particular and I’m definitely trying to cut down on shopping as much as I can - I also looked at it as an exercise in self-control in light of my commitment to my makeup no-buy. However, as it often happens when you’re not out looking for anything in particular, something just kind of falls in your lap that you can’t pass up. A happy accident, or fashion serendipity. That’s precisely what happened to me as I was browsing through the sale racks. Hidden amongst last season’s trendy items that had not sold, were these beauties. For 50% off. I fell so much in love I got them in two colors, black and off-white. Those of you who follow me on Instagram may have already caught a sneak peek.
They are 100% pure silk from Marks & Spence’s Autograph-line. They’re still available online, but at full price. Weird. Silk is one of those materials that will keep you magically cool in the summer, while feeling like the most comfortable, luxurious thing on your skin.
These will be such a staple in my wardrobe as we head into the warmer months. I will layer them under blazers and cardigans for the office, paired with either a skinny jean or a wide-leg, flowy pant. I can dress them up or down with jean shorts or a pleated skirt, or a structured black pant, or layer them over a long-sleeved tee, or…. honestly, the options are limitless. And when you find items that work with literally almost anything else in your wardrobe, it’s like striking gold. So yes, I bought two. Also, at 50% off they were only €25, so if they’d had them in any other colors I probably would have gotten one in every color.
You’ll have to excuse the pictures, guys. I have no clue where my tripod is, so the angle is a little off - I’m balancing the camera on a wobbly pile of pillows and books on top of a stool 😀. #stylebloggerproblems
Also, most of my clothes are still in storage, so I’m limited in the outfits I can pull together at a moment’s notice. I’ll be back in my own apartment in May, so hopefully my outfit posts will be a little easier to put together…
